4.3 Sampler

The Sampler allows you to take any audio file and map it across your keyboard, pitching the audio up and down so you can play it like a synthesizer. It has two views: Simple and Advanced.

Simple View

  • Amp EG (Envelope Generator): A visual graph that controls the volume envelope (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release) of the sample, dictating how fast it fades in and out. You can change the shape by dragging the dots directly on the graph, or by placing your cursor over the millisecond numbers below and dragging up or down.
  • Velocity Tracking: A checkbox that enables volume sensitivity based on how hard you press your keys. The slider bracket next to it lets you define the strict upper and lower limits of this velocity range (from 0 to 127).
  • Voice Limit: A slider that sets how many notes can be played at the exact same time (up to 64 voices) before older notes are cut off.

Advanced View

  • FILTER Tab: Contains four distinct knobs: Filter Frequency Min and Filter Frequency Max (to set the lowest and highest boundaries for the filter's brightness), alongside Filter Resonance Min and Filter Resonance Max (to set the lowest and highest boundaries for the filter's sharp, whistling peak).
  • AMP EG Tab: Controls the volume envelope. It features an ADSR graph where you can drag dots to shape how fast the sound fades in and out. Below the graph are the EG A Velocity Tracking Min and EG A Velocity Tracking Max knobs, plus a checkbox. When checked, these knobs dictate exactly how much your key strike force (velocity) affects the volume.
  • CUTOFF EG Tab: Controls the filter brightness envelope over time. Like the Amp tab, it features its own ADSR graph. Below it are the EG B Velocity Tracking Min and EG B Velocity Tracking Max knobs, plus a checkbox, which together dictate exactly how your key strike force opens or closes the filter.
  • RESONANCE EG Tab: Controls the filter's resonance (sharpness) over time. It features its own ADSR graph, plus EG C Velocity Tracking Min and EG C Velocity Tracking Max knobs and a checkbox to dictate how your key strike force affects the resonance peak.
  • Keyboard Mapping Grid (C0 - C4): A lower grid displaying how your loaded audio samples are stretched across the piano keys. This grid allows for "multi-sampling," meaning you can place different audio files on different sections of the keyboard.
