4.8 Augur

Augur is a Vector Synthesizer based on the architecture of the Sequential Circuits Prophet VS. It uses a visual joystick interface to morph and crossfade between four independent digital oscillators (A, B, C, and D) in real-time to create evolving textures and cinematic atmospheres.

OSC Section

Contains four sound generators (A, B, C, D).
  • Wave: Displays the identification number of the digital waveform. Click and drag on the number to scroll through the library, which ranges from 32 (Sine wave) to 127.
  • Semi: Tunes the individual oscillator in musical half-steps.
  • Cents: Provides fine-tuning for the oscillator pitch in micro-increments.

FILTER Section:

  • Cutoff: Adjusts the frequency where the filter begins to cut the audio.
  • Reson: Adds a sharp frequency resonance peak at the cutoff point.
  • Env: Sets the depth of how much the modulation envelopes affect the filter brightness.
  • Mode: A dropdown menu to select the mathematical filter type (e.g., 2P LP).
  • Analog: A toggle button that adds a warmer, imperfect character to the filter to mimic vintage hardware.

AMP & CHORUS Section:

  • Volume: Sets the master output level of the instrument.
  • Chorus: A checkbox that activates a built-in widening effect.
  • Rate & Depth: Knobs to adjust the speed and intensity of the chorus modulation.

GLOBAL Section:

  • Pan Knobs (1 through 8): Eight individual knobs used to place each of the instrument's internal voices anywhere in the stereo field (Left to Right).
  • Voices: Displays the number of polyphonic notes currently being processed by the engine.

MIXENV Section (JOY Diamond):

The central control area for vector synthesis.
  • Diamond Grid: A visual joystick where the four corners represent Oscillators A, B, C, and D. Dragging the numbered points manually mixes the volume balance between the four sources.
  • Nodes (0, 1, 2, 3, 4): Draggable points on the grid that define a "motion path." The sound automatically travels through these points in sequence when a note is played.
  • Rate (0-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4): Sliders that set the travel speed between each specific node in the motion path.
  • Loop: A dropdown menu used to select which nodes the path will cycle between (e.g., 2 <-> 3) while a key is held.
  • Repeat: A toggle button that determines if the defined loop cycles endlessly or plays only once.

Advanced Tab Area:

A multi-functional section used for modulation routing and waveform selection.

ENV Tab:

Displays a detailed timing graph for the Mix Envelope, used to plot the precise levels and rates for the joystick nodes.

MATRIX Tab:

A routing grid used to connect modulation Sources (vertical rows like LFO 1 or Velocity) to Destinations (horizontal columns like Filter or Pan). Clicking a circle creates an active modulation link.

WAVES Tab:

Displays a visual reference gallery of all 127 digital waveforms available to the oscillators.
